Shadow Play is also a sequel to “A Matter of Time” which I read in 2017, but felt it was a weaker novel than the two I have read of her. Not much of a plot, but you don’t read for the plot, mainly for the characters and the threads that connect them to each other and how they navigate their lives through these threads. But it was an experience, to live through the mid 1890s in the forested Malenadu regions and watch the lives of people go by, while changes come knocking. It didn’t help that the font size was small and the book big with a lot more lines than usual. Note that a Kannada book at 700 pages is the equivalent of a ~1300 page English book with the speed that it reduces me to. Interesting book, doesn’t give any easy answers.
